Instructors at Extra Innings


Extra Innings offers individualized, year round professional baseball and softball instruction. Our staff uses a uniform step-by-step teaching system to encourage positive progress with all our students.

The Extra Innings staff features former and current professional players, college all-stars, and area college and high school coaches.

 

Todd Mascena – Owner/ Instructor


Todd is a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He has 15 years of sales and sales management experience working for both large, multi-national companies and in startup environments. Todd was a 4 year starter for the 2-time Ivy League champions and was an All-Conference selection. He was named to the 1990s All-Decade Team and was inducted into the U Penn baseball Hall of Fame in April, 2008. Todd was also a 3-time Rhode Island High School All-State Baseball selection, the Rhode Island Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year in 1988 and All-State in both soccer and basketball while attending Bishop Hendricken. Todd is a native of Rhode Island where he coached at the high school level and worked at numerous camps and clinics for younger players.
 

Phil Davidson – Extra Innings Instructor

Phil is a native of Warwick, RI, and a 2001 graduate of Toll Gate High School, where he was a member of the 2001 state championship team, a First Team All-State selection, and the Rhode Island Gatorade State Player of the Year. After Toll Gate, Phil played for the prestigious Midland (OH) Redskins summer program, prior to enrolling at NC State. Phil was a four year starter at N.C. State, where he finished his college career in the NC State top 10 list in career appearances, innings pitched, and strikeouts. After college Phil signed with the Kansas City Royals, and spent a year and a half in their minor league organization. Phil became an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island in 2007, becoming the youngest paid assistant in Division 1 Baseball. Phil will be available for individual and group pitching lessons, as well as pitching clinics.

 
 

Dan Tucker – Extra Innings Instructor

Dan joins the EI staff after completing his career at the University of Rhode Island where he was a catcher. Prior to URI, Dan played at Pilgrim High School, where he was a 4 year starter, as well as a two-time All State selection. Dan will be instructing hitting and catching, as well as working the school vacation clinics. He is available for private and group lessons.

 
 

Erin Sweeney – Extra Innings Instructor

Erin will be doing a majority of the softball hitting instruction this fall and winter. Erin is the assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island, where she works primarily with the team’s hitters. Prior to URI, Sweeney coached at Central Michigan. Erin is a graduate of Cornell, where she was a four-year starter. She will be available for individual hitting lessons, as well as overseeing the softball hitting clinics.

 
 

Kate Fuoroli – Extra Innings Instructor

Kate is a native of Warwick, RI and a graduate of Pilgrim HS, and Springfield College. While at Pilgrim Kate earned All-Division and All-State honors while leading the Patriots into the state playoffs three times. Kate was a four-year starter at Springfield, where she graduated in 2003. Kate will be available for softball pitching lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, and will assist in our summer clinics.

 
 

Chris Ursillo – Extra Innings Instructor

Chris Ursillo returns to EI –Warwick to assist in the instruction and development of youth and high school pitchers. Ursillo is a ’00 graduate of Warwick Vets HS, where he was a 3 year starter on the varsity baseball team, and an All-Division selection. “Urs” is in his 8th season with the Warwick Vets freshman baseball program, assuming the position of Head Coach for the first time in 2008. He also serves as an assistant for New England Frozen Lemonade in the Rhode Island American Legion League. Chris will be instructing youth and high school pitchers in individual and group lessons, as well as being a fixture at our vacation and seasonal clinics.

 
 

Tom Koch – Extra Innings Instructor

Tom is a native of Warwick, RI, and a 2001 graduate of Pilgrim High School, where he played varsity baseball, hockey and volleyball. Upon graduation Tom headed to Eastern Connecticut State where he was a four-year starter in the infield, and member of the 2004 team that won the National Championship. Upon graduation from ECSU, Tom signed a contract with the New Haven Cutters of the Canadien-American Professional Baseball league, and recently was claimed by the Long Beach Armada of the Golden (CA) Professional Baseball League. Tom is available for individual hitting instruction, as well as group lessons and clinics.

 

Mike Walsh – Extra Innings Instructor

Mike is a native of Rhode Island where he was an All-State pitcher and the Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year in 1992. Mike played 2 years of college ball at Central Arizona Junior College, one of the best JC programs in the country. An injury forced Mike to the sidelines and since 1999 he has been an elite pitching instructor. Mike has coached in high school, AAU, PAL, and legion. Mike is also frequently on the staff at many prestigious camps and clinics such as Mo Vaughn’s HitDog baseball camps, the University of Connecticut baseball camps and Nomar Garciaparra’s baseball camps. Mike is a teacher in the Cranston School System, as well as the Varsity Baseball coach at Cranston East High School, where he led his 2007 team to the state playoffs in his first season at the helm. Coach Walsh is available for private pitching lessons.
